This new course supersedes the old Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety and provides a thorough familiarisation with the new Model Work Health and Safety Act 2011. This qualification is much sought after in both private and public sectors with most employers requiring some level of formal studies in the area. The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety offers you that formal qualification along with the skills and knowledge of WHS legislation and WHS Management Systems.

This course covers a broad range of health and safety functions and helps participants to understand the health and safety duties, rights and responsibilities in the workplace. Who is this Qualification for?

This course is targeted towards those with supervisory responsibilities for implementing and monitoring the organisation’s WHS policies, procedures and programs in a work area. It applies to individuals with a broad knowledge of WHS policies who are currently required to contribute to that system.

Learning Outcomes

Participants in the course will be provided with the skills and knowledge required for field leadership in WHS which supports the development of organisational behavioural and cultural change in WHS.

How is the course delivered?

The program aims to provide in class support across all Units of Competency. Participants are required to access the 7 days (7) day face-to-face delivery of these core and elective Units. The philosophy behind our proposed delivery structure mirrors the lifecycle of safety management in the workplace (see course outline below).

To further meet the needs of our clients USSA Training recognises the opportunity to use organisation specific case scenarios and documentation.

How is this course assessed?

Participants will be expected to complete all assessment tasks. The time taken to complete this qualification will vary between units and individual participants with the volume of learning required for a Certificate IV being typically 0.5 – 2 years.

Learning Pathway

Upon completion of USSA Training’s Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety WHS trainees will already hold three (3) units from the BSB40807 Certificate IV in Frontline Management qualification, leaving them with only seven (7) to do to achieve a dual qualification.

How will my prior learning be valued and recognised? Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is the process where USSA Training undertakes to recognise your existing skills, knowledge and experience regardless of how they were acquired. Recognising your current skills and knowledge in the area of Work Health and Safety may lead to a complete qualification or the issuing of a Statement of Attainment recognising those competencies.

What are the benefits of RPL for me?

Your previous experience and skills will be recognised

You do not need to repeat learning skills that you already have

It reduces the time spent on the qualification as there may be some training you do not need to complete

We will talk to you about your experience and identify whether or not the RPL supports the completion of all or some of a qualification through RPL.

Who is this Qualification for?

This course would benefit people with a previous work history in the specialist allied fields i.e. military, police, corrections and security personnel who are moving to a management or supervisory role. Also experienced managers within the security and risk management sector may choose to formalise their experience by attaining this qualification.
