MBIE launches “People Come First’ Guidance

October 2013. The MBIE has launched its People Come First: Promote a Strong Health and Safety Culture. The guide is aimed at helping managers in the mining, quarrying and tunnelling industries build and promote a strong health and safety culture in their operations; it provides detailed information on what a good culture looks like and what to do to make sure your business is operating at best practice levels. Having a strong health and safety culture should be ‘the way we do things around here’, even when no one is looking. The People Come First has been published in response to recommendation nine of the Royal Commission on the Pike River Coal Mine Tragedy and can be freely downloaded on the MBIE website.
