The quirky clip called ‘Dumb Ways to Die’ features animated characters killing themselves in a number of ‘dumb’ ways and was made to highlight the importance of being safe around trains. It has become one of the most successful safety campaigns worldwide, having amassed over 40 million hits on YouTube after going viral. In 2013, Metro stated that the campaign has cut the number of “near-miss” accidents by more than 30 per cent; it has been reported that the short film may now be licensed to foreign train operators.
